If a dictator, The Clock Master, existed we all would be subjects within his "Chronoarchy". In this Chronoarchy we are surrounded by flickering signs and symbols, buzzing tones and reminders all pressing their urgency upon our daily lives compelling us to increase tempo. The culture of speed is one that makes no distinction between work and leisure, private and public, day and night, physical and virtual. In this culture one's existence becomes a blurring list of task, obligations, incursions, commitments, and projects constantly being juggled. Our food is fast, even our speech and thoughts are becoming abbreviated in order to keep up with the times. The thing is, time is not moving, WE ARE. We are constantly moving from one point in time to the next all the while contemplating what is to come. Time for reflective thought and solitude is disappearing and it is becoming increasingly difficult to imagine any other temporal existence.
We speed through our days in accordance to the rhythm of the master clock. But you should remember that the time is yours. Take back your time and invest it well. Interupt your busy schedule today and take your time to breathe, take your time to play, take your time to eat, take your time to praise, take your time to love, live and reflect.
